Trajan is an old style serif typeface designed in 1989 by Carol Twombly for Adobe. She retired from type design in early 1999, to focus on her other design interests, involving textiles and jewelry. She worked as a type designer at Adobe Systems from 1988 through 1999, during which time she designed, or contributed to the design of, many typefaces. Weapons, and men in battle are portrayed throughout the whole column, but more importantly, the Emperor Trajan is seen 59 times amongst his troops.Ĭarol Twombly (born 1959) is an American calligrapher and typeface designer who has designed many typefaces, including Trajan, Myriad and Adobe Caslon. On this column are various relief carvings which depict 2 battles that were won by the Roman empire. Trajan’s Column (Italian: Colonna Traiana) is a Roman triumphal column in Rome, Italy, that commemorates Roman emperor Trajan’s victory in the Dacian Wars. Irene Adler played her role most convincingly, I’m sure none of us will forget her.Īnd i’m also very sure none of us will forget our Roman Gladiator, haha. i especially liked the video from the baskerville team. it was very informative and entertaining. I enjoyed all the presentations done by the other groups as well. it may be over-used, but it’s certainly over-used with good reason (in my opinion). we hope that through our performance, and comedy, we managed to convince our classmates that Trajan is deserving of its status as “The Movie Font”. however, we managed to overcome this obstacle through choosing to present our font via a rather unique skit. We faced some issues with our project as our font is rather young, it was hard sourcing data as we do not have as large a history to present. i will definitely think twice before i use any font in my work to make sure i don’t convey a wrong feeling. Can you imagine seeing so many titles filling up your book? You will definitely faint.! noel’s reflectionĪfter this project, i developed a keener eye for fonts. But we all know we wont use it for long texts. I could see why it was so widely used in posters because it really look powerful as a title. Trajan is really a beautiful typeface with the contrast and pointed terminals and edges. I guess our type class open our eyes to another world we had never knew prior to this semester. I had gain lots of knowledge from the researched on the Frutiger and Trajan typeface and its really amazing to see them so frequently in our lives yet never bother to know more about it. Judging from the response we received last Friday i can safely say that we did it guys! Our harwork paid off! Before the start of our presentation, I told myself that the success of this presentation will be based on the level of laughter. The countless rehearsals and the countless improvement the night before was really fun to me. Sorry that this reflection took so long to be posted but I just want to say a big Thank You to Noel and Zachary.
